The New Year is here and so are the fitness goals! After the holidays have concluded is the time when most people make the decision to join a gym. Whether you're a newbie, regular, or been on the fitness yo-yo; you can take steps to reach your goals. Checkout these six simple steps to create a roadmap to your fitness goal(s).
Step 1: Write It Down
First and foremost write it down! Don't just say it or think it. Go get a piece of paper and write it down. This is going to be the destination on the roadmap to your goal. Is your goal tied to weight? Then how much? Do you want to recover from a knee injury? What will indicate success for being injury free? How about run a 5K? What time frame are you aiming to achieve? Take the first step and write it down.
Step 2: Make A Plan
This is the step many find intimidating. That's ok. In fact, as a personal trainer this is the step I gain most of my clients. When it comes to taxes and automotive care I always seek help from a professional. Don't be afraid to ask questions, do your research, and/or seek help from a fitness professional. This plan is important because it's the roadmap to get to your goal (destination). Don't worry if you have to take detours along the way. Just focus on the basic plan so you can begin your journey. Step 3: Schedule Your Appointment
One of my clients schedules into her calendar her gym time. I think it's brilliant! Schedule it on your calendar, set an alarm, or keep a regular set time daily to make sure you're following your roadmap. Whether you have your clock beep 10 minutes before you leave for the gym or schedule "Meeting with RJ" in your calendar; the point is to make time. Because without time on task you will be stalled out on your roadmap to success.
Step 4: Successes And Recovery
Along the way you are going to have some successes. Be sure to celebrate those accomplishments. On the other hand set backs are going to pop up as you progress. Take some time for recovery if needed or even reroute the exercises or fitness programming if it's not working for you.
Step 5: Find A Gym Buddy
Being on the road by yourself can get lonely at times. Same thing may happen as you are progressing to your goal. Find someone to workout with, another regular to smile and say hi to, or even hire a personal trainer. This can help you stay motivated when monotony sets in.
Step 6: Keep Showing Up
It may sound simple, but it's so important. Little by little you will have success. Over time, the results will come. Keep showing up! Start where you stand and keep on stepping!
